September is Hunger Action Month

Recognizing September as Hunger Action Month, The Mercy Matters Committee of The Cathedral Parish of St. Patrick has organized a volunteer night to help at The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. They will be packing boxes of healthy food that will be distributed to people in need within the community. This can also be a great family volunteer event or opportunity for teens to earn community service credits.

Additionally, volunteers will learn about the prevalence of hunger - in Pennsylvania nearly 1 in 8 is in danger of going hungry. They will also learn about the operation of the Food Bank and its cooperatives and how they are able to economically provide thousands of meals here in the mid-state area. They can turn a mere $10 donation into 60 meals!

To help fight hunger, you can volunteer, donate, and advocate for programs and initiatives to share the bounty and improve food access. All volunteers over age 12 are welcome to join Father Joshua Brommer and the Mercy Matters Committee on September 11 by contacting Eric Failing at 717.238.9613 or at efailing@pacatholic.org.

More information is also available at The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank at 3908 Corey Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109, and at www.centralpafoodbank.org.
